San Diego Padres third baseman Will Middlebrooks left Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with an apparent leg injury after slipping on a bat left in the on-deck circle.

Middlebrooks was tracking a high fly ball in foul territory near the visitors' dugout in the top of the seventh inning when he tripped and twisted his right ankle. Alexi Amarista replaced Middlebrooks and took over at second base, while Yangervis Solarte moved from second to third.

Middlebrooks was eventually able to walk off under his own power, albeit gingerly.

Middlebrooks is batting .224 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs this season. He has played in 73 of San Diego's 78 games.

The Padres lost the game 6–4.
