Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale threw a complete game on Monday but saw his streak of games with at least 10 strikeouts snapped at eight.

A ninth consecutive game with 10 or more batters fanned would have been a major-league record, breaking the mark set by Pedro Martinez in 1999.

Sale finished Monday's game with six strikeouts, allowing two runs on six hits as the White Sox won 4–2. Both runs Sale surrendered came on solo home runs.

Sale has now tied Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw for the major-league lead in strikeouts with 147.

Earlier on Monday, Sale was named to the American League All-Star team
