Major League Baseball’s July 31 trade deadline is approaching quickly, meaning it’s time to gather the latest rumors and buzz. Which players might be on the move? Which teams are looking to buy are sell?

• The Mariners are “taking a hard look” at veteran reliever Jason Frasor, Bob Dutton of The News Tribunereports. Frasor was designated for assignment by the Royals earlier this month and elected to become a free agent after passing through waivers. 

• The trade market for Cincinnati Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto continues to heat up, as the Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, and Kansas City Royals have been the most aggressive in their attempts to acquire him, reports USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

• The Orioles have considered trading Chris Davis but decided they are too close to playoff contention to move their top power hitter, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sunreports

• An AL executive told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that the David Price situation should be watched. “I don’t think he’s going back [to Detroit]. The Tigers need to revamp their farm system, so it’s not cut and dried that they won’t entertain a package for him,” the executive said.

• Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon continues to lobby for a trade, telling CBSSports.com that if it were up to him, “I'd have been gone a long time ago.”

• The Astros are expected to target Reds starter Johnny Cueto if he becomes available on the trade market, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

• The Mariners are eyeing Phillies outfielder Ben Revere, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

• The Padres have been asking other teams about their interest in righthander James Shields, reports Peter Gammons.

• The Cardinals will be taking a “disciplined” approach at the deadline, general manager John Mozeliak told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

• The Rangers have told teams they are seeking bullpen help and a “complementary” righthanded hitter, GM Jon Daniels told MLB.com. The Rangers’ bullpen ERA of 4.38 is better than only the Rockies’ 4.52 and the Braves’ 4.40 in the majors.

• Reds rightfielder Jay Bruce has been available for “a while,” reports ESPN’s Buster Olney. Cincinnati has not yet kicked off the sweepstakes for righthander Johnny Cueto, however.

• The Braves and Indians discussed trading third baseman Chris Johnson for outfielder Nick Swisher before Swisher landed on the disabled list with a knee injury, reports Fox Sports.

• Minor-league shortstop Raul Mondesi is the Royals’ “most appealing asset for trade discussions,” reports the Kansas City Star. The team is not expected to part with him, however.

• The Pirates are interested in trading for Phillies centerfielder Ben Revere and rightfielder Jeff Francoeur, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

• The Royals and Pirates are among teams seeking outfield help, reports CBS Sports.
