Report: Yoenis Cespedes would prefer to stay with Mets despite Nats’ offer
Free-agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes would prefer to stay with the New York Mets despite the Washington Nationals offering him a bigger deal, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
On Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported the Nationals were working on signing Cespedes to a five-year, $100 million deal. The Mets are reportedly unwilling to give Cespedes a contract longer than three years.
Rosenthal reports that Cespedes’s agent Brodie Van Wagenen will meet with the Mets again on Friday to discuss a deal. The Mets have not yet formally extended Cespedes an offer, but Rosenthal’s sources say the 30-year-old outfielder is hoping to return to New York.

The Chicago White Sox are also reportedly trying to sign Cespedes, though it seems more likely he'll sign with one of the two NL East division rivals, Rosenthal reports.
Cespedes hit .287 with 17 home runs in 57 games with the Mets after being traded from the Detroit Tigers midway through last season. He finished the year with a .291 batting average and 35 home runs.
