The Oakland Athletics have scratched Opening Day starter Sonny Gray from Monday’s game against the Chicago White Sox due to food poisoning, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Rich Hill will start in his place. In 29 innings with the Red Sox last year, Hill surrendered five runs on 29 hits and recorded five walks and 36 strikeouts.

Gray is coming off a season in which he went 14-7 with a 2.73 ERA in 208.0 innings with 169 strikeouts.
