ST. LOUIS (AP) Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez left Friday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to fatigue.

Martinez had walked two of the three batters he faced in the top of the fourth, including Francisco Cervelli to load the bases. Martinez then fell behind 1-0 to Josh Harrison when Cardinals infielders met at the mound and the trainer came out onto the field.

Martinez gave up a run in 3 1/3 innings and 29 of his 52 pitches were strikes.

Martinez entered the game with a 4-1 record and a 2.60 ERA.

Lefty Tyler Lyons came on in relief and struck out both batters he faced to get out of the inning.

The Pirates led 1-0 at the time.
