St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Carlos Martinez exited Friday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fourth inning with fatigue and will be re-examined by team doctors tomorrow, the team announced.

Martinez pitched 6 2/3 innings in his last outing against the Washington Nationals while dealing with flu-like symptoms.

He left the game on Friday after just 52 pitches through 3 1/3 innings.

Tyler Lyons entered the game as a reliever.

Martinez entered his latest start with a 4–1 record and a 2.60 ERA through his first five starts of the season.
