CHICAGO (AP) The Chicago White Sox are skipping Carlos Rodon's next start because of discomfort in his neck and arm.

Rodon was scheduled to pitch Thursday against the Washington Nationals. Miguel Gonzalez will take his place.

Rodon took the loss Friday at Detroit and informed the team he was in pain over the weekend. General manager Rick Hahn says an MRI showed no structural damage. He also says Rodon was not happy about the decision to skip his turn, but the team was being cautious with the left-hander.

The White Sox reinstated outfielder Melky Cabrera from the family emergency leave list before Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals. They also optioned outfielder Jason Coats to Triple-A Charlotte and designated infielder Jerry Sands for assignment.
