The Philadelphia Phillies selected high school outfielder Mickey Moniak with the No. 1 pick in the 2016 MLB draft Thursday.

The 6’2”, 190 pound senior out of La Costa Canyon High School in Southern California ranked as the top high school position player in the 2016 draft class, according to Baseball America.

He led La Costa Canyon to a 23–7 record this season, hitting .476 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs in 29 games.

According to MLB.com, Moniak compares to Chritian Yelich, the Miami Marlins 24-year-old leftfielder.

Moniak is currently committed to UCLA.

The Phillies finished an MLB-worst 63-99 last season and currently sit fourth in the NL East with a 29-31 record.
