Los Angeles Angels pitcher Andrew Heaney will undergo Tommy John surgery on Friday, the team announced.
Heaney has been out since April 5 after feeling discomfort in his elbow during his season debut against the Cubs. He has been on the disabled list since May 2.
"Based on the lack of progressive UCL healing in Andrew's case, coupled with discomfort upon testing the ligament while throwing, we have concluded that Tommy John surgery is the necessary course of action," the Angels said in a statement.
The 25-year-old started 18 games for the Angels last season after being traded from the Dodgers. He finished 2015 with a 6–4 record and 3.49 ERA.
Los Angeles (32–47) is currently last in the in the AL West and has the fourth-worst record in MLB.
