ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) Kansas City Royals left-hander Danny Duffy lost his no-hit bid in the eighth inning when Desmond Jennings hit a leadoff double on a 1-2 pitch.

Duffy struck out a franchise-record 16 through eight innings Monday night. He had allowed only one baserunner before Jennings' hit when Logan Forsythe walked on a 3-2 pitch leading off the fourth Monday night.

The 27-year-old had not pitched a complete game in 94 big league starts coming in.

Duffy won his previous five decisions and hasn't lost since being beat by the Baltimore Orioles on June 6.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the seventh when Kendrys Morales homered off Chris Archer. Alcides Escobar had an RBI single in a two-run eighth that put Kansas City up 3-0.
