SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Giants pitcher Jeff Samardzija has not allowed a hit through six innings against the New York Mets.

Samardzija has retired 18 of 19 batters and has six strikeouts. The only Met to reach base was pitcher Noah Syndergaard, who walked with two outs in the third after narrowly missing a home run. Samardzija has thrown 81 pitches.

Jose Reyes nearly had an infield single with two outs in the sixth, but second baseman Joe Panik charged the ball and flipped it to first base with his glove for the out.

Samardzija has never pitched a no-hitter and is winless in three career starts against the Mets. The right-hander threw a one-hitter against the Detroit Tigers on Sept. 21, 2015 while with the Chicago White Sox.
