SAN FRANCISCO (AP) The New York Mets activated outfielder Yoenis Cespedes and shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera from the disabled list in a move manager Terry Collins hopes will provide a much-needed offensive boost for his ball club.

Cespedes had been out since Aug. 4 because of a strained right quad. He was among the team leaders in batting average (.289), home runs (22) and RBIs (59) before getting hurt.

Cabrera, who arrived at AT&T Park on Friday sporting a new blonde hairdo, was sidelined since Aug. 1 with a strained left patella tendon. Cabrera went into the day batting .255 with 13 home runs and 33 RBIs.

The Mets also called up left-handed reliever Josh Smoker from Triple-A Las Vegas. To make room, infielders T.J. Rivera and Ty Kelly and pitcher Josh Edgin were optioned to Las Vegas.
