Red Sox leftfielder Andrew Benintendi submitted his nomination for catch of the year on Monday.
Red Sox leftfielder Andrew Benintendi made an incredible catch to preserve a late lead against the Rays on Monday.
With Boston leading Tampa Bay 3–0 in the bottom of the eighth, Benintendi robbed Steven Souza Jr. of a two-run homer with a leaping catch over the left field wall. Benintendi secured the catch at the apex of his jump, and nearly tumbled over the wall as the upper half of his body folded over it.
The Red Sox won the game 6–2 to move into a tie with the Blue Jays for first place in the AL East.
