The Red Sox brought out several of David Ortiz’s 2004 teammates for his retirement ceremony.
The Red Sox paid tribute to soon-to-be-retired DH David Ortiz with a ceremony before Sunday’s game in Boston.
Teammates from each of Ortiz’s three World Series championship teams were in attendance, including Manny Ramirez and Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez. The Red Sox also draped the flag of the Dominican Republic, Ortiz’s home country, over the Green Monster and the country’s president, Danilo Medina, was in attendance.
During the ceremony, the Red Sox announced that they will be retiring Ortiz’s number next season.
Ortiz addressed the crowd at the end of the ceremony and quickly became overcome with emotion.
