Angels Competing With 4 Teams for All-Star Marcus Stroman: Reports
The Los Angeles Angels' biggest priority this offseason has been to upgrade their starting rotation. They have a few arms on the roster already, but are lacking a true ace-level starter.
The front office has been looking all over the market for help, and they've been linked with some of the top names.
The New York Post's Jon Heyman revealed that the Angels are among five teams competing for the services of free-agent right-hander Marcus Stroman. Stroman is one of the better pitchers still available, and he would provide the Halos with a solid front-line option in the rotation.
Stroman has been linked to the Angels already this offseason, and he would be a solid signing for them. His price tag wouldn't be as high as some of the other top pitchers on the market, like Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery.
In the first half of the season last year, Stroman was one of the best pitchers in the league. Injuries caused his downfall after the All-Star Break, but he showed what he could do.
The splits are a little concerning, but he was on the short list of National League Cy Young award candidates early on. He posted an ERA of 2.96 in 112.2 innings of work.
However, after the break he dealt with a right hip issue that derailed his season. Stroman was limited to just 24 innings, posting an ERA of 8.63 in eight games (six starts).
It remains to be seen if the Halos will land Stroman, but they are doing what they can to at least be in on the conversation.
