Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon could be headed to the IL once again, and a move they made could signify that.

The Angels announced they will recall infielder Liván Soto from the Halos double-A affiliate Rocket City Trash Pandas. This moves comes at the heels of the Rendon injury, and it could mean an IL stint, according to Angels insider Jeff Flecther.

Rendon has been coming into his own after a wacky off-the-field moment to start the season. The 32-year-old has slashed .301/.415/.369 with a .784 OPS while having one homerun and 20 RBIs in 30 games. And now, we're not sure how long he will be out or if he will head to the IL, although all signs point to it.

Soto played with the Angels double-A and triple-A in 2023 and has not looked well. He's slashed .170/.434/.217 with a .560 OPS, zero home runs, six RBIs in 30 games, and 106 ABs. The 22-year-old first signed with the Halos in 2017 to a minor league deal and has gone through many of their minor league affiliates. He made his debut late last season and looked really good for Anaheim; he slashed .400/.414/.582 with a .996 OPS, one home run, and nine RBIs in 18 games and 55 ABs for the youngster.

If the Halos could get half of that for when he goes out there, that would be massive for the Angels. We'll have more on the status of Rendon once that comes out; hopefully, it's brief.
