Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani is the best player in baseball. He's the ultimate five-tool player and is one of the most dominant pitchers today. Ohtani already has an MVP and will collect much more hardware down his career.

According to MLB writer Thomas Harrigan, Ohtani could collect much more hardware this season. Harrigan predicts the 28-year-old two-way superstar will win AL MVP and collect his first-ever Cy Young award.

MVP

AL: Shohei Ohtani, Angels

CY YOUNG

AL: Shohei Ohtani, Angels

Ohtani could be the 11th player in history to win an MVP and Cy Young award in the same season, and that could very well happen.

Shohei burst into the scene in 2018 and proved he could be a top player as both a batter and pitcher. His numbers throughout his career are elite on both sides of the field. In 2022 alone, Shohei slashed .273/.356/.519 with a .875 OPS while having a 2.33 ERA, 219 strikeouts, and collected 15 wins in 28 starts.

The last player to win both Cy Young and MVP is Dodgers veteran Clayton Kershaw, who snagged both awards in 2014. Ohtani would also join the likes of Roger Clemens, Don Newcombe, Sandy Koufax, and Bob Gibson. This would certainly add to Shohei's GOAT resume, and even if he doesn't do it this season, he'll do it eventually.

The Japanese sensation is too great of a player not to win both awards. I agree with Harrigan, 2023 will be the year of Shohei, and we can't wait to see what he has in store for Halo fans.
