Angels Two-Way Superstar Named Team MVP Through a Third of Season
It's a grueling schedule for baseball players with 162 games so naturally players will have slumps. But as the long MLB season goes on, you need your stars to perform like stars. For the Angels, they have multiple star players to look too. Yet, the team still finds itself outside the playoff picture. They'll need one of their MVPs to help rally the team if they are to make a playoff run.
The MLB staff over at The Athletic, broke down every teams MVP through the third of the year and the Angels player was a no-brainer. They named two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani as the teams MVP and it had to be him, right?
Ohtani has once again been special this season as he continues to do what hardly any other players in history have done. Not only is he the MVP of the Angels but many see him as the frontrunner for the American League MVP as well. His ability to both pitch and hit at very effective rates is incredible to watch and a main reason as to why he likely will become the sports highest paid player this summer.
On the year, he has posted a 3.30 ERA with 96 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.014. His pitching continues to impress and while has hasn't been perfect on the mound, he remains an above average to good pitcher.
On the hitting side of things, Ohtani has been crushing it too. He has a batting average of .275 with 16 home runs, 42 runs batted in and an OPS of .904
Ohtani has helped keep this Angels team afloat and in contention amid injuries and inconsistent play. They will need him to keep up the production if they have any shot at a playoff push. I don't foresee him slowing down so in all likelihood, he'll be in the conversation for MVP at the end of the season once again.
