Brown Off And Running In GM Role With Astros
Dana Brown warned everyone that he would not ease into his new role as general manager of the Houston Astros.
Brown wasn’t kidding.
He immediately signed young standout pitcher Cristian Javier to an extension through 2027 reportedly worth $64 million.
Brown is also working on long term deals with franchise staples Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker.
The Astros will enter the 2023 season seeking their third World Series title since 2017.
They have a stockpiled roster to accomplish the feat and Brown knows it. He’s smart to try and lock in these key pieces.
That’s why owner Jim Crane brought him in.
The two executives share the same work ethic.
“I don’t ever ask anybody to do anything I wouldn’t do, and I work hard,” Crane recently told the Houston Chronicle. “So I expect everyone that works for me to do the same and I expect results. If you’re running any baseball team or any business, I push pretty hard, but I lead by example. I don’t think I’m hard to work for. I’m fair. I want everybody to do well that works for me.”
Brown is already doing well.
Expect lots of transactions through spring training and during the season. Brown has already proven that he’s not going to rest.
He wants to win. That much is obvious.
