Ryan Borucki was activated off the 60-day injured list and will join the team immediately, the Blue Jays announced Friday.

Joel Payamps was designated for assignment to clear a spot for Borucki on the 40-man roster.

Borucki posted a 4.05 ERA (3.17 FIP) with 14 strikeouts through 13 1/3 innings of work before sitting out due to "forearm tightness." The left-hander's injury was eventually diagnosed as a forearm flexor strain and he was placed on the injured list on May 14.

His IL stint was longer than expected, but Borucki pitched well in his two rehab outing with Triple-A Buffalo (three strikeouts, one hit in 3 1/3 innings) and evidently felt healthy enough to re-join the major league club.

The 27-year-old returns to a bullpen that looks almost entirely different than it did two months prior. The Blue Jays front office added the likes of Jacob Barnes, Adam Cimber and Trevor Richards — all guys who could eat into Borucki's chances at high leverage. Still, the lefty showed good stuff before his injury — bumping his average fastball velocity to a career high 96 mph — and will make an immediate impact on the Toronto 'pen.
