Braves Briefing: Atlanta is getting hot again

Atlanta keeps adding to their win streak

The Atlanta Braves have one of the hottest win streaks in all of major league baseball.

The Braves have won six straight after taking the first game against the Washington Nationals Friday night. They have also won seven of their last 10 contests.

With their last four wins being within the NL East, they continue to keep their footing at the top of the division and now hold a 4.5-game lead. With more teams on the horizon with losing records, Atlanta can continue to take advantage of how their schedule has fallen and get closer to another NL East crown.

Braves Today's Jake Mastroianni tackled the coverage Friday night and highlighted the first start for AJ Smith-Shawver.

In the 20-year-old's first big league start on the mound and just his second big league appearance, he allowed just 2 unearned runs on 3 hits and 2 walks over 5.1 innings with 2 strikeouts.
It wasn't a particularly dominating start as Smith-Shawver only had 2 strikeouts and just 6 whiffs on 37 swings (16%), but he didn't give up a lot of hard contact either.
The Nationals only had 3 hard-hit balls against the young righty on 16 balls in play.
While it was a really good first start, there is potential there for a lot more.

What's next for the Atlanta Braves?

Saturday's first pitch is at 4:10 pm ET. The game broadcast, with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin, is available inside Braves Country on Bally Sports Southeast and is available on MLB.TV outside of the broadcast area. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com. And, as always, we'll have all your coverage right here on Braves Today.
