How did Mike Soroka do in his return for the Atlanta Braves?

Mike Soroka's return to the Atlanta Braves showed some bright signs on Wednesday.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Michael Soroka made his long-awaited debut at the 2023 Spring Training game against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. The Braves went on to win 5-3 in Lakeland, Florida, with Orlando Arcia being the star of the game, reaching base three times and driving in four of the Braves' five runs.

Soroka faced eight batters, retiring four of them, including issuing one walk and striking out a batter. Although Soroka was working on a low pitch limit of around 35, he managed to throw at 90-94 and change speeds often. However, Soroka seemed to have little feel of the slider, which resulted in several pitches flying out of his hand. Despite this, Soroka did manage to pull off a few nice sliders, including both called strike one and swinging strike three to Spencer Torkelson for his lone strikeout.

Following Soroka, Michael Tonkin gave up another run due to shoddy defense. However, the Braves' bullpen, consisting of Dylan Lee, Ty Tice, Matt Swarmer, Trey Riley, and Caleb Barger, finished out the pitching slate, combining for five innings of one-hit, one-walk, and three-strikeout relief.

On Thursday, the Atlanta Braves will take on the New York Mets. We will also be one week away from Opening Day.
