Atlanta Braves officially re-activate Max Fried from injured list

The Braves lefty returns for tonight's start vs San Diego; Lucas Luetge goes to IL

The Atlanta Braves officially activated LHP Max Fried from the injured list, the team announced this afternoon.

Fried, the Opening Day starter, left that start against the Nationals after covering first base on a groundball and was later diagnosed with a grade one hamstring strain. He's been working on rehab activities for the last week, primarily focused on leg work - sprints, defensive drills, and lower body exercises. He's being activated without a rehab stint - he's been able to throw bullpens and side work through the later parts of his rehabilitation.

Fried suffered a hamstring strain in April 2021, ending a month that was not particularly effective for the lefty. Hitting the IL after an April 13th start against the Marlins, Fried was looking at a 6.35 ERA with fourteen runs and twenty-three hits in his first three games. He spent about three weeks on the injured list, and once he returned, started a streak of dominance that carried Atlanta to the division crown.

After returning, Fried started 25 games in the rest of the 2021 season and went 14-6 with a 2.44 ERA, wth the Braves winning 17 of those 25 games. Fried went on to start five games in the postseason, three of them being wins, as Atlanta won the World Series in six games over the Houston Astros.

Fried is expected to start tonight's series opener against the San Diego Padres, scheduled for 9:40 ET. The game broadcast, with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin, is available inside Braves Country on Bally Sports South, and is available on MLB.TV outside of the broadcast area. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
