Cubs Still Searching For Consistent Leadoff Hitter
Since the Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016, they’ve had numerous issues offensively.
Especially with the leadoff hitter.
Since Dexter Fowler stopped playing for the Cubs, they have featured 31 players in the leadoff slot, according to information compiled by Cubs.comwriter Jordan Bastian.
Ten different Cubs hit first last season and six of them are no longer with the team, Bastian noted.
The Cubs have plenty of options like Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner, Cody Bellinger, newly-acquired Dansby Swanson or others.
There doesn’t seem to be a clear cut choice just yet. That’s what spring training is for.
That’s what manager David Ross will have to determine.
Ross said at the Cubs Convention that the leadoff hitter decision will be a fluid one. It might not be decided by Opening Day.
It might not even be decided by the All-Star break or the end of the season.
If the Cubs are winning, the fans won’t be too concerned.
