In a season where the Dodgers enter with more youth than they have in recent history, it certainly feels like Miguel Vargas has been anointed as the Chosen One. Having joined LA back in 2017, he spent five seasons sharpening his tools and craft in the minor leagues. He immediately caught the eyes of multiple scouts from the Dodgers due to his powerful hitting and ability to excel at multiple positions.

Initially there were talks of having Miggy start his professional career at third base, especially once Justin Turner left the team, but the Dodgers have now confirmed that he is their choice for second base. It is the spot he has been getting the most practice at and with Max Muncy holding down third, along with new shift rules, the coaching staff feels this move will give them great defense.

Obviously, as time goes on, the 23-year-old will learn how to be more effective at this position. But team manager Dave Roberts is already pleased with what he's seen. He spoke to Jack Harris of The LA Times and shared that he believes Vargas will have athleticism to his advantage.

"There's been some really spectacular plays," said Roberts. "And then there's been a couple plays that I think he could have made. So I think, at this point, that's what we would have expected. But our expectation is, he's expecting to improve each day."

Don't sleep on Miggy. He's already among the favorites to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award. And if he's able to handle the pressure of playing for the Boys in Blue at such a young age, the Dodgers will have something very special on their hands.
