Dodgers RHP Tony Gonsolin is going to miss the start of the season. We know that. Dave Roberts confirmed it on Thursday. However, Gonsolin suffered a sprained ankle about two weeks ago, and is still barely progressing.

Roberts' recent update, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, wasn't very promising. When asked if Gonsolin was getting closer to being able to throw off a mound, here's what Roberts had to say.

"He’s closer than he was yesterday," Roberts said. "But I don’t know what that means."

While ankle sprains can be tough, it's a little concerning that it's already been two weeks and Gonsolin still isn't ready to throw off a mound. It also doesn't sound like he's very close.

While Gonsolin is reportedly throwing long toss from 150 feet, he doesn't sound very close to making a return to pitching.

Also, once Gonsolin's ankle is fully healed, he'll then have to restart his ramp up for the regular season — and who knows how long that will take.

Fortunately, the Dodgers have some options to replace Gonsolin in the form of Ryan Pepiot, Michael Grove and even Andre Jackson, according to Roberts.

However, Gonsolin was an All-Star last season, and the Dodgers would love to get him back and pitching sooner rather than later.

Hopefully, the positive updates start rolling in for Gonsolin soon.
