Dodgers RHP Dustin May could be one of the biggest X-factors on this team. May, who at his best has some of the nastiest and most unhittable stuff in baseball, underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2021. He missed the rest of that season, and made his return late in 2022 — but wasn't fully himself.

Now though, well removed from that surgery, May is feeling like his old self again — and that's great news for the Dodgers (per SNLA).

"I would say right now is probably the closest I’ve been to pre-surgery feel-wise. I’m in a pretty good spot right now," May said. "I finally got some off time. The rehab process, you’re coming back and haven’t thrown in a game in a while, but there’s a lot of throws that have been made in the rehab process. I wouldn’t say I was tired or anything, but I was almost going through a full season with the throws. Just being able to have the rest of the offseason and coming in healthy is a really good thing for me."

It's not only a really good thing for May, it's also a really good thing for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers need May to be his dominant self, and stay that way over the course of an entire season.

With Tony Gonsolin already out for the beginning of the season, and Clayton Kershaw entering his 16th year in the league, the Dodgers desperately need some health and consistency in their rotation.

You know you're going to get it out of Julio Urias, but that's the only sure thing.

If May can be another sure thing, and be a consistent starter for the Dodgers all season long, they will feel much better about their rotation — and May will have a real chance at making his first All-Star team.
