The brief stint of Dylan Covey as a Los Angeles Dodger has come to an end. The veteran reliever was designated for assignment after just one game with the team earlier this week and has now been claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Being a hometown kid from Glendale, Covey grew up just 15 minutes away from Dodger Stadium, and pitching for the team he rooted for was certainly a dream come true.

“It’s really special," Covey said after his first big league appearance in three seasons. "I grew up 15 minutes up the road. I grew up a Dodger fan. A couple years ago I didn’t ever think I’d be back in this situation. But, yeah it’s really special playing for a hometown team and my family’s here and got to see me. So, just special.”

Unfortunately, the pitching situation for the Dodgers cut that dream short. In need of a fresh arm, the club DFA'd the right-hander on Thursday to make room on the roster for Andre Jackson.

In his lone outing on Wednesday, Covey was a hero for the bullpen, tossing 4 innings of 2 run ball after Dustin May was forced to exit with an elbow issue.

Covey has a 6-29 record with a 6.54 ERA over 72 appearances for the White Sox, Red Sox, and Dodgers in his off and on MLB career. He joined LA on a minor league deal this winter after pitching the last two seasons in the Chinese pro baseball league.
