Gavin Lux: Dodgers GM Confirms the Obvious for Infielder

Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes states the obvious to the media regarding Gavin Lux’s role

The Los Angeles Dodgers were projected to sign a superstar-level talent as their next shortstop in the 2022-2023 offseason. Instead, they sat back and relaxed while other teams signed the top four shortstop free agents: Trea Turner, Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts, and Dansby Swanson.

The reason for that was their confidence in 2016 first-round draft pick Gavin Lux, whose natural position is shortstop. Lux hasn’t gotten the chance to play extended innings at the shortstop position, but with Turner gone, the 25-year-old will take control of the shortstop position.

Gomes spoke with the media on Wednesday and stated the obvious regarding Lux and his role on the team in 2023.

"After months of dancing around the obvious conclusion, Gomes and the Dodgers laid out their plan at shortstop.

“Right now, we see Gavin (Lux) as our everyday shortstop,” Gomes said. It’s the clear and right choice for the Dodgers brass to go with Lux as the everyday shortstop."

The kid from Kenosha has improved year by year, with 2022 being his best in the big so far, playing in a career-high 129 games while his numbers across the board have jumped.

A lot will be expected of Lux in 2023, as all Dodger fans are eager to see what he will do with his expanded role.
