Padres Reportedly Showing Interest in Former Dodgers Flameout Pitcher

Can the Friars restore the thunder?

Former All-Star and Dodgers pitcher Noah Syndergaard may find a new home in San Diego this offseason according to FanSided's Robert Murray. With the Padres looking to cut payroll, they have been in the market for cheap, high-upside players.

"He’s a candidate to receive a one-year, prove-it deal and is drawing interest from the San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates, among others, sources say."

Last year, Andrew Friedman took a chance on Noah Syndergaard. The Dodgers signed him to a one-year, $13 million contract in hopes of bringing back some of Thor's thunder.

Unfortunately, that did not come to pass. His velocity never returned and he struggled to keep the ball in the park. In 12 games with the Dodgers, Syndergaard gave up an equal number of home runs and had a 7.16 ERA.

He pitched his last game for the Dodgers on June 7 before they placed him on the injured list with a right index finger blister. A desperate need for pitching allowed Friedman to trade Syndergaard to the Cleveland Guardians for right-handed infielder Amed Rosario.

He appeared in only six games with the Guardians before they released him in August.

Now, the Padres are in the mix to take a flyer on the former All-Star who is still just 31 years old. After last year's performance, it's hard to imagine he earns a larger contract than the one the Dodgers gave him.

Maybe the Padres can tap into something that the Dodgers could not.
