Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Reveals More Information on Marriage, Wife, Announcement

Ohtani revealed it all on Thursday afternoon.

Shohei Ohtani surprised everyone late Wednesday evening, announcing that he was a married man. Most people didn't even know that Ohtani had been seeing anyone, so this was news to nearly everyone.

Ohtani is a very private person, and keeping his relationship hidden shows that. But he wanted to get everything out into the open before the season started. He felt like this was the right time to disclose his personal information. 

Many started to speculate what this meant, or who this person was. Ohtani decided it was best to address it all while speaking to reporters on Thursday. 

He said that he has known his wife for three to four years now and that he wanted to share this information now to avoid any distractions entering the season. Ohtani also cleared the air about whether his relationship impacted his free agency decision to join the Dodgers.

Shohei Ohtani said he and his new wife have known each other for around 3-4 years. He said he wanted to avoid distractions by announcing it during the season, so did so now.

Also said the relationship had “absolutely nothing to do” with his free agency decision.

Anytime a celebrity as big as Ohtani gets married, it's natural to wonder if the partner is famous, as well. But Ohtani clarified this, calling his wife a "normal Japanese woman."
