Clevinger Keeps Astros in Check as Indians Top Houston 3-0; Three Takeaways From the Win
The Indians and Astros played their second game of this weekend series where the Tribe walked out with 3-0 win and looking to sweep Houston tomorrow afternoon.
With today's win, the Indians improve to 22-19 but today had things matched with great outing from Mike Clevinger and three runs were enough to shut out the Houston Astros.
With that, Cleveland scored one run in the thanks to Jason Kipnis RBI single to left. Then a solo homer from Lonnie Chisenhall made it a 2-0 ballgame. Finally in the top of the eighth, Carlos Santana drove one to the gap in center field to score Michael Brantley.
Here are the takeaways from today's win.
1. Clevinger's Outing
After today, some people will think Mike Clevinger should stay in the rotation after what he showed his great outing today.
Mike was able to keep the Astros off balance as he was able to keep the ball down all day and haven't allowed a hit until the bottom of the seventh when Jose Altuve singled to left but the rally didn't last long as the defense turned into a double play.
Also, strucked out eight which was a career high.
2. Timely Hitting
Last night the Tribe recorded nine hits and today, eight. Fans should be happy to see some progress from the offense.
As said earlier, Jason Kipnis put the Tribe on the board early. Then in the forth, Lonnie Chisenhall launched a solo homer to right center and finally an insurance run by Carlos Santana scoring Michael Brantley on a RBI single in the seventh.
Especially seeing players trying to find their groove is a good thing if you're a Tribe fan.
