Report: Indians Agree to Minor League Deal with OF Will Venable

Publish date:

The Indians continue to add depth to their outfield, as Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Tribe has agreed to a minor league deal with outfielder Will Venable.

Last season he began the season in San Diego, where in 98 games he hit .258 with six homers, 30 RBI and 11 stolen bases. He was moved to Texas on August 18th, and in 37 games with the Rangers hit .182 with 3 runs batted in and five stolen bases.

He made $4.2 million last season with the Padres. His best season in the Majors was 2013 in San Diego when he hit .268 with 22 homers and 53 runs batted in with 22 stolen bases.

He's played all three outfield positions during his career. An interesting fact on Venable as Rosenthal points out, he was a college teammate of Indians GM Mike Chernoff at Princeton.

The 33-year-old was drafted by the Padres in the 5th round of the 2005 draft.
