Marlins Take on Mets in Port St. Lucie With Prospect Starting on the Mound

The Miami Marlins have a prospect on the bump today because it's getting hard to find healthy MLB arms

The Miami Marlins are playing a spring training game today.

Problem is, their pitching staff isn't entirely ready for it, owing to the litany of injuries to various MLB starting pitchers this spring.

The Miami Marlins are starting prospect pitcher Luis Palacios on the road versus the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie, while a MLB starter stays back and pitches to minor leaguers.

Here's how the Marlins will line up on the road:

3B Jon Berti
CF Dane Myers
LF Jesús Sánchez
RF Avasail García
C Christian Bethancourt
1B Trey Mancini
DH Nick Fortes
SS Tristan Gray
2B Javier Sanoja

Among the pitchers scheduled to follow Palacios are Sixto Sánchez and Devin Smeltzer. This year's Opening Day starter, Jesús Luzardo, is staying back at camp and throwing a simulated game against minor leaguers. He's scheduled to go six innings, but being on a backfield, his outing can be shortened or adjusted if needed.

Prospect Javier Sanoja, one of this spring's breakout prospects, gets his first Grapefruit League start in lieu of Vidal Bruján, who is nursing a sore shoulder and is officially day-to-day.

Here's how the Mets plan to lineup for the home matchup in Clover Park:

LF Brando Nimmo
SS Francisco Lindor
C Francisco Alvarez
RF Tyrone Taylor
DH Starling Marte
3B Mark Vientos
1B Ji Man Choi
2B Jose Iglesias
CF Harrison Bader

Starting for the Mets is lefty Jose Quintana, making his fourth start of spring. He's 0-1 in Grapefruit League action, striking out nine and walking four in 8.2 innings.
