The Padres are off to a mediocre start when you look at the talent they have on the roster. Individually speaking, their lefty ace Blake Snell is in a category of his own in horrific starts.

Snell is off to another bad start as a member of the Padres, and it's been a concern for the Friars. His start in 2022 was forgettable, but it might not be a comparison when discussing his start in 2023.

Blake Snell through his first five starts: fewer innings, more hits, more walks, higher ERA compared to last season

@TalkingFriars

Snell is known for his notorious bad starts. Outside of his 2018 AL Cy Young season, he's failed to have an ERA under three due to his horrendous starts.

Blake started picking it up last season when the Friars hit late July. From July and on, six or seven innings pitched were typical for the southpaw, and he allowed six home runs in his last 14 starts.

The offense has been slow, and the 30-year-old has been slow as well. When will he pick it up? We can never count out Snell and his track record; unfortunately, this is who he is, and we must deal with it. But do the Friars have to deal with it past this season?

He is set to be a free agent after the 2023 season. However, if he performs down the stretch and into the postseason, we could forget about his bad starts in April. Not a great recipe for success, but it is Snell's.
