Padres News: LHP Ryan Weathers Talks New Look Delivery for 2023

The Padres southpaw has been working on a new windup.

The San Diego Padres spring training is officially underway. They’ll be looking for a healthy and productive spring training before they head for a successful 162-game season.

One Padres pitcher who will look to find success is left-hander Ryan Weathers. He recently spoke to the media about his new delivery for the 2023 season.

“Went over my head. Something that gives me rhythm and a little bit of pace. It allows me to get out in front a lot more; it’s a lot of my off-speed to be a lot better and gives me better location. It’s just overall helped everything.”

The change of delivery could only help Weathers. He only appeared in one game in 2022, and it was a forgettable outing. He came out with a 9.82 ERA, allowed four earned runs and collecting three strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.

Weathers pitched most of his 2022 campaign in the minor leagues with the Padres' triple-A affiliate. In 31 games and 22 starts, the 23-year-old went 7-7 with a 6.73 ERA, 88 strikeouts, and a 1.79 WHIP in 132 innings pitched.

Weathers made his debut in 2020 and has pitched in 31 games throughout his big league career. It has been a tough couple of seasons for the southpaw as a pro; hopefully, this new delivery allows him to find his groove and become a formidable pitcher for the Friars.
