Even though the San Diego Padres have been able to cash in on two straight wins, they have done so with Manny Machado on the IL recovering from his hairline fracture. It was a wild ride as the clubhouse was pondering whether to keep him out or not but he ultimately made the responsible decision to sit out.

Machado first sustained his injury in a match against the Kansas City Royals when he was hit by a wild pitch from Brad Keller.

San Diego is in the midst of a huge series against the Washington Nationals as they look to get back to winning habits and even though we received some positive news regarding the 30-year-old's recovery process, it does not look too likely that he'll re-join the lineup immediately when his first IL stint comes to an end.

However, it's still great to see this news that was first shared by The San Diego Union Tribune's Kevin Acee.

Manny Machado hit off a tee and played long toss Tuesday, which were both steps toward a return from a fracture in his left hand.

“Progress,” Machado said. “Getting better.”

“It’s a big jump,” Padres manager Bob Melvin said. “I don’t want to handicap it right now. But being we are right now and playing in three days, that’s going to be tough.”

Prior to his fracture, Machado was slashing .231/.282/.372 and had bombed five home runs in 40 games with the Friars. Even though it wasn't his hottest start to the season, his defense and leadership still proves of signifiant value to the squad. The swinging will come eventually.

Get well soon Manny!
