The Philadelphia Phillies may only have the bare minimum of players on the National League All-Star Team if ESPN’s recent projections for next month’s All-Star Game are correct.

In this case, it would be that the Phillies would get the one selection guaranteed by MLB, since each team has to send one player to the game.

The All-Star Game is set for July 11 in Seattle.

So who’s the lucky Phillie?

Right now, it’s outfielder Nick Castellanos, who was projected to be a reserve. Per ESPN:

Here's how bad things are in Philadelphia: I actually forgot to put a Phillies player on my initial run through the roster and had to go back to add Castellanos. The Phillies' entire roster is built around its star power, and none of those stars are having All-Star seasons. Pretty incredible. Or maybe a good reason to expect a Phillies surge in the second half.

As for Castellanos, he’s having an All-Star worthy season, as he’s slashing .315/.360/.496/.856 with seven home runs and 35 RBI. He’s played in an NL-leading 61 games and has 20 doubles.

He was last an All-Star selection in 2021 with the Cincinnati Reds, which was his first appearance in the mid-summer classic. That season he batted .309 with 34 home runs and 100 RBI. He joined the Phillies the next season and helped them to the World Series in 2022.
