Andrew Heaney, Texas Rangers Fall to Cubs in Spring Training

The Texas Rangers' fifth starter had a difficult day as the team prepares for its final game in Surprise, Ariz., on Saturday.

The Texas Rangers lost to the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Here’s a breakdown of the games.

Chicago Cubs 5, Rangers 3

Records: Chicago (15-10-1), Rangers (12-14-2).

Winning pitcher: Marcus Stroman (CHC, 2-0).

Losing pitcher: Andrew Heaney (TEX, 0-2)

Save: Javier Assad (CHC, 1).

Rangers at the plate: Rangers catcher Sandy Leon drove in Josh Smith on a groundout to first base in the top of the second, tying the game at 1-1. Texas fell behind 5-1 before they got back on the board.

In the top of the seventh, Ezequiel Duran’s groundout scored Travis Jankowski with the bases loaded. Cameron Cauley then singled to right to score Leon.

Robbie Grossman and Brad Miller each had two hits for the Rangers. Corey Seager had one hit to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, passing Elvis Andrus’ 14-game hitting streak in 2013.

Rangers on the mound: The Cubs got to starter Andrew Heaney in his 4 2/3 innings of work, as he gave up eight hits, five runs (all earned) and two walks. He also struck out three.

After that, relievers Jonathan Hernández and Will Smith each pitched a scoreless inning. Dane Dunning also pitched a scoreless eighth.

On Saturday: The Rangers play their final game in Surprise against the San Diego Padres at 2:05 p.m. CT.
