Rangers Prospect Evan Carter Earns Another No. 1 Ranking

At the top of the Texas Rangers' highly-touted minor-league system is an outfielder who is already at Double-A after two seasons.

Texas Rangers outfield prospect Evan Carter is the No. 1 overall prospects in the system, according to Top 20 rankings released by The Athletic.

The site released Top 20 lists for every MLB team. Earlier this month the Athletic ranked the Rangers as the No. 7 system in baseball, calling it “vastly improved” in the last two years.

Carter has been a consistent No. 1 prospect for the Rangers this winter. The Athletic, ESPN.com and MLB.com have ranked him in that spot, either in team rankings or in top 100 rankings across baseball.

Carter, the Rangers’ second-round pick in 2020, was named Baseball America’s Rangers Prospect of the Year for 2022. He split his time last season between High Class-A Hickory and Double-A Frisco. Carter batted .295/.397/.489/.886 in 106 games, with 86 runs, 21 doubles, 10 triples, 12 home runs and 73 RBI. He drew 64 walks and struck out 81 times. He also stole 28 bases.

After Carter, the Athletic had third baseman Josh Jung at No. 2, followed by pitcher Owen White, pitcher Jack Leiter and outfielder Dustin Harris.

Jung is expected to be the Rangers' Opening Day third baseman. Each of the club's top five prospects will be part of Major League Spring Training, which begins on Wednesday.

The rest of the top 10 (in order) includes outfielder Aaron Zavala, infielder Luisangel Acuña, pitcher Brock Porter, pitcher Tekoah Roby and pitcher Kumar Rocker. Rocker was a first-round pick last summer and a former college teammate of Leiter.

The rest of the top 20 (in order): outfielder Anthony Gutierrez, outfielder Yeison Morrobel, infielder Justin Foscue, pitcher Mitch Bratt, infielder Jonathan Ornelas, pitcher Cole Winn, third baseman Gleider Figuereo, infielder Thomas Saggese, infielder Danyer Cueva and pitcher Ricky Vanasco.
