Mitch Garver Takes Big Step in Texas Rangers Injury Rehab

The Texas Rangers catcher and designated hitter played a full game for the first time since his injury rehab started last week.

Texas Rangers catcher Mitch Garver played a full game on Tuesday for Triple-A Round Rock as part of his injury rehab assignment.

The Express were hosting Houston’s affiliate, Sugar Land, and lost to the Space Cowboys 5-4.

Garver started at designated hitter and led off for the Express in his first action since hitting a home run on Sunday.

He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk, as his batting average with the Express dropped to .313.

Playing in a full game could be the final step for Garver to be activated when the Rangers return home after Wednesday’s series finale at the Detroit Tigers to start a series with the Seattle Mariners on Friday.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said this week that he was happy with Garver’s progress and indicated that seeing him play a full game would make the team more comfortable calling him up.

Garver was moved to the 10-day injured list on April 10 with a mild left knee sprain. Garver was batting .263 with two home runs and six RBI at the time of the injury.
