Jack Leiter, Kumar Rocker Sent to Rangers Minors Camp

The Texas Rangers moved 10 players back to their minor-league camp as they continue to ramp up for the 2023 season.

Texas Rangers pitching prospects Jack Leiter and Kumar Rocker are among the players reassigned to minor-league camp, the team announced via Twitter on Saturday.

This isn’t an unusual move this early in camp. The players being reassigned were not considered to be candidates for the Major League roster and will get more playing time as the Rangers ramp up their minor-league Spring Training.

All were non-roster invitees.

Along with Leiter and Rocker, the list includes left-handed pitcher Cory Bradford, infielder Blaine Crim, infielder Justin Foscue, catcher Cody Freeman, catcher David García, left-handed pitcher Antoine Kelly, right-handed pitcher Daniel Robert and catcher Matt Whatley.

Leiter and Rocker both pitched in relief earlier this week, each throwing a scoreless inning of relief. It was their only spring game appearance to date.

Leiter and Rocker were teammates at Vanderbilt. Leiter as the Rangers’ first-round pick in 2021, while Rocker was the Rangers’ first-round pick in 2022.

Leiter started and pitched all of 2022 at Double-A Frisco. Rocker only pitched in Arizona Fall League but was voted an AFL All-Star as he helped the Surprise Saguaros win the AFL title.

Crawford started the same game in which Leiter and Rocker pitched in relief.

Crim was one of the organization’s top corner infielders with Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock as he hit .293 while playing first base.

Foscue made waves early in spring training as he hit a home run in each of the Rangers’ first two spring training games. He is a Top 10 prospect in the Rangers’ organization but, as a middle infielder, doesn’t have a clear path to an MLB job.
