Rockies Drop Spring Opener to Angels; Notes, Box Score and Bud Black Post-Game

The Colorado Rockies lost their first game of Spring Training 7-5 to the Los Angeles Angels at Tempe Diablo Stadium after yesterday’s Cactus League opener against Arizona was canceled due to rain … the Rockies tied the game 4-4 in the fifth inning on Eric Stamets’ three-run home run but allowed one run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the seventh.
RHP Jeff Hoffman made the start for Colorado, tossing two innings and allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
RHP Ashton Goudeau made his Major League Spring Training debut after being added to the 40-man roster on Nov. 20, 2019 … tossed two innings and allowed one run on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
RHP Tyler Kinley made his debut in a Rockies uniform, tossing a scoreless eighth inning, inducing three ground outs.
Nolan Arenado went 0-for-1 … drove in the Rockies’ first run of the Spring with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning.
Elias Díaz went 1-for-2 with a run scored … doubled to right-center field in his first at-bat in a Rockies uniform.
Ryan McMahon went 1-for-2 with a line drive single to left field.
Trevor Story went 1-for-2 with an infield single.
Eric Stamets hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning, his first at-bat with the Rockies … was signed as Minor League free agent on Nov. 12, 2019 after making his Major League debut with Cleveland in 2019.
