Rodgers Makes Defensive Debut, Drives in Go-Ahead Run In What Becomes 5-5 Tie

TheCowboy

While Chi Chi Gonzalez was working three shutout innings for the second start in a row, and Brendan Rodgers made his first defensive appearance in the field since last June, the Rockies did have a sobering moment in their 5-5 game against the Cincinnati Reds at Salt River Field on Tuesday. Peter Lambert, who was an in-season callup last year and is contending with Gonzalez for the final rotation spot, departed with one out in the fifth -- his second inning of work.

Lambert allowed a home run and a single and got an out against the three batters he faced in the fifth. He had entered the game an inning earlier.

"He had tightness in his arm," said manager Bud Black. "Fingers are crossed."

Gonzalez allowed one run and struck out three in pitching three scoreless innings for his second start in a row.

The Rockies scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to take a 5-4 lead, but the Reds tied the game with a run in the top of the ninth.

A game-tying RBI double by Brett Boswell sandwiched between two-out RBI singles by Dom Nunez and Brendan Rodgers gave the Rockies the lead. In the eighth, Boog Powell drew a walk and eventually scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game, which was called after nine innings.
