Back-to-Back: Bush SAL Pitcher of Week, Second Week in a Row for Tourist Hurler
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Left-hander Nick Bush was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 22-28. Bush made one start last week and turned in a complete game three-hit shutout against the league’s number one offense in the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Bush’s dominance, which included seven strikeouts, helped the Tourists sweep a double-header on the road.
Bush was the Rockies eighth-round draft choice out of Louisiana State University in June of 2018.
Another Tourists lefty, Colten Schmidt, was named the SAL top pitcher for the week of July 15-21. Schmidt, who earned a promotion to High-A Lancaster, posted the first nine-inning complete game shutout by a Tourists pitcher since 2015. Schmidt’s historic outing came on July 17 on the road against the Greenville Drive. Colten limited the home team to only two hits and lowered his league-leading ERA on the season to 1.95.
The Tourists have now had three pitchers win the South Atlantic League’s Pitcher of the Week award in 2019. Ryan Rolison, who is also now with Lancaster, won the award during the week of April 15-21. Asheville has had one member of their offensive unit win Player of the Week this year; Willie MacIver during the first week of the season.
