Farm Report: Tough Night Down on the Farm for Rockies Full-Season Affiliates
The Rockies four full-season farm teams were a combined 0-for-5 on Saturday. Triple-A Albuquerque was swept in a doubleheader by Salt Lake City, and the three other teams each lost, including Double-A Hartford and Advanced A Lancaster both getting shut out.
The two short-season teams, however, both won, and second-round draft pick Aaron Schunk (.319) had another big night for short-season A Boise.
In Saturday's Games:
AAA Albuquerque (45-61) lost 8-4 and 8-7 to Salt Lake City (Angels). Pat Dean (3-10, 7.36) allowed six runs on 11 hits and two walks, striking out two in four innings of Game 1. Brian Mundell (.334) hit a two-run home run, his ninth home run. In Game 2, Chris Rusin (1-2, 6.30) allowed seven runs, six earned, on nine hits, striking out three in 5 2/3 innings. Roberto Ramos (.319) hit a two-run home run, his 21st of the season.
AA Hartford (15-21, 52-51) lost 6-0 against Akron (Indians) in a game stopped after 5 1/2 innings because of rain. Antonio Santos (0-2, 13.50) allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk, striking out three in his second start since being promoted from Advanced A Lancaster. Mylz Jones (.230) was 1-for-2 with a double.
Advanced A Lancaster (21-16, 55-50) lost 14-0 to Visalia (D-backs). Will Gaddis (6-7, 6.57) gave up four runs in the first inning, and five more before he was relieved in a nine-run fifth. Gaddis allowed 13 hits and struck out three. The JetHawks were limited to singles by Matt Hearn (.314), Casey Golden (.266) and Austin Bernard (.220).
A Asheville (19-17, 48-58) lost 7-1 to Hickory (Rangers). The Tourists were limited to singles by Coco Montes (.260) and Will Golson (.241). Miguel Ausua (0-2, 7.11) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out three in 4 1/3 innings.
Short-season A Boise (2-3, 17-26) won 8-7 against Hillsboro (D-backs). Joel Condreay (2-1, 4.64) was credited with the win, allowing one walk and striking out three in 2 1/3 innings. Jacob Wallace (2.08) struck out two in one inning for his seventh save. Micah Kaczor (6.23) started and allowed five runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks, strikiing out two in 4 1/3 innings. Aaron Schunk (.319) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, three RBI and his fourth home run. Bladimir Restituyo (.288) was 2-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI and his fourth home run.
Rookie Grand Junction (2-0, 21-19) won 10-9 against Rocky Mountain (Brewers). Eric Hepple (1-1, 3.78) pitched one inning to earn the win when the Rockies scored four runs in the ninth, the game-winner coming on a bunt by Brenton Doyle (.324), who was 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Jared Horn (2.00) started and gave up six runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks, striking out three in 4 2/3 innings.
