Rockies Set Minor League Staff, Schaeffer Promoted to Manage AAA Albuquerque


The Rockies have promoted Warren Schaeffer from Double-A Hartford to manager of Triple-A Albuqueruqe, replacing GlenAllen Hill, who was let go after seven years as the Rockies Triple-A manager. Schaeffer will be entering his eighth year in the Rockies organization, having spent the last two years as the manager in Hartford. He also has spent time as the manager of Class A Asheville and the hitting coach with Short-Season A Tri-City.

While Tim Doherty is returning for a third season as the hitting coach for the Isotopes, Blaine Beatty will make the move from pitching coach for the Rookie Grand Junction to the same role in Albuquerque.

Former big-leaguer Chris Denorfia replaces Shaeffer as the manager of Hartford in his minor-league administrative debut. Denforia was the Cubs quality assurance coach in 2019. He finished his playing career in 2017 in the Rockies system.

Frank Gonzalez will spend his eighth year in the Rockies organization as the pitching coach at Hartford after serving as the supervisor of development at High-A Lancaster the last two years. Tom Sutaris, the hitting coach at Lancaster the past two years, will assume the same role at Hartford.

Scott Little returns for a second year as the manager at Advanced-A Lancaster, where he will be joined by a new staff featuring Steve Soliz as the supervisor of development, Ryan Kibler as the pitching coach and Michael Ramirez as the hitting coach. Kibler has an eight-year resume as a mnor-league pitching coach, including with the Rockies Short-Season Class A Boise affiliate in 2019. Soliz manager the Boise affiliate last year. Ramirez spent the last two season as a coach for the Rockies in the Dominican Summer League.

Hitting coach Zach Osborne, who spent the last two years on the staff of Rookie Level Grand Junction, is the one newcomer with Class A Asheville. Randy Ingle returns for a third year as the supervisor of development, Robinson Cancel for a third season as the manager, and Mark Brewer for a second year as the Tourists pitching coach, and his seventh season in the Rockies organization.

Cesar Galvez has been promoted to manager at Short-Season A Boise after spending the past two seasons as the Hawks' hitting coach. Dave Burba will assume the pitching coach role at Boise in what will be his 10th season in the Rockies organization, and Fred Ocasio returns for his 24th season with the organization, his second season as the Boise supervisor of development. Nic Wilson, a volunteer assistant at Eastern Kentucky University last season, was added to the staff as the hitting coach.

Jake Optiz returns for a third year as the manager or Rookie Grand Junction, the lone holdover on the staff. Pedro Lopez, who spent the last 12 years in the Mets organization, will serve as the supervisor of development. Trevor Burmeister, an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Madison College the last three seasons, will be the Rockies hitting coach, and Helmis Rodriguez is the pitching coach after spending the last two years in that role with the Rockies Dominican Summer League affiliate.

Manager Mauricio Gonzalez returns for a 21st season and coach Florentino Nunez a 13th season with the Rockies Dominican Summer League program, which features two teams. Eugenio Jose, a hitting coach in the DSL the last 14 seasons, will manage the Rockies second DSL team.


Down On The Farm
