With CWS Over, Rockies No. 3 Draft Kauffmann Should Sign Within Next Week
The one obstacle to Michigan right-hander Karl Kauffmann agreeing to terms with the Rockies has been addressed.
The College World Series came to a conclusion on Wednesday night, Vanderbilt knocking off Michigan and Kauffmann, who started the deciding third game of the best-of-three championship showdownt.
Teams could not negotiate or sign draft choices who were still on teams participating in the College World Series.
Kauffmann was the Rockies Competitive Balance Round selection between the second and third rounds -- the 77th player selected overall. He is expected to agree to terms and undergo a physical within the next week.
The Rockies did get deals finalized this week with the five other players who had been unsigned:
-- 8th-round draft choice Jacob Kostyshock, a right-handed pitcher from Arkansas;
-- 11th-round selection Mike Ruff, a right-handed pitcher from Florida Atlantic;
-- 12th-round pick Christian Koss, a shortstop from Cal-Irvine;
-- 16th-round pick Trysten Barlow, a left-handed pitcher from Mississippi State;
-- And 25th-round pick James Keegan, a right-handed pitcher from Mississippi State.
