Report: Twins on verge of signing veteran slugger Carlos Santana
The Minnesota Twins are reportedly signing veteran slugger Carlos Santana to a one-year deal.
KSTP's Darren Wolfson was the first to report the move, which will mark the Twins' first major splash in free agency this offseason. The other big move came earlier in the week when they traded Jorge Polanco to the Mariners for four players.
Santana, who plays first base and designated hitter, started last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being traded during the season to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Santana made his name with the Cleveland Guardians, for whom he racked up six 20+ homer seasons and had a knack for drawing walks. While the walks have dropped off in recent seasons the power hasn't, with Santana knocking 23 homers last season between the Pirates and the Brewers, while hitting .240/.318/.429.
He's also a switch hitter so he'll give the Twins excellent lineup versatility.
